Meet Laura, an active community member from Brighton, Michigan. She is also a popular online content creator, known throughout the region for her cozy, calming videos inspired by daily life in her hometown.

For Laura, life in Brighton is the heartbeat of her creativity — and the foundation of her story. Long before she embraced her passion for content creation and community events, she was a teen walking into her local Lake Trust relationship center.

“I became a Lake Trust member when I started banking at about 15 years old,” says Laura. “Banking can be scary and overwhelming, especially when you’re young. It’s important that you pick a place that feels like a community.”

An early relationship with Lake Trust gave Laura the confidence to manage her finances independently. Whether it was opening her first credit card at 18 or learning to budget for college, the personal banking team was ready to support her financial wellbeing journey. She even earned a degree in Business Management and Digital Marketing from Cleary University, thanks in part to a Lake Trust Foundation scholarship.

Every time I step into the Brighton relationship center, I love that the Lake Trust team knows me by name. They make me feel like I am capable of anything.

After earning her degree from Cleary, Laura set out to grow her online brand. She credits her education with giving her the tools to thrive. “Cleary taught me a lot of problem-solving skills that help me every day, especially for growing my brand as a content creator.”

Her content often highlights her favorite place: her home in Brighton. She says, “My home is my safe space. I love being able to host my family there, and it’s truly my favorite place.” And when it came time to refinance her home, she naturally turned to her partners at Lake Trust.

Laura is now a creative force in Brighton. Leveraging her online platforms, she organizes events that lift up local businesses and bring people together. One of her proudest achievements? A recent town-wide event she organized called “Destination Stars Hollow,” inspired by the show Gilmore Girls.

“Every participating business and restaurant embraced a different theme,” Laura explains. “We put together an amazing town event. It brought in up to 40,000 people.”

 

This spirit of connection is what keeps Laura moving forward in both her creative work and her financial journey. To her, Lake Trust is more than a credit union. It’s part of her community. As a member since her teenage years, Laura sees the Brighton relationship center as a source of support and financial partnership — a place that truly feels like home.
