Meet Georgia, a proud mother and grandmother from Okemos, Michigan. She is also a long-time Lake Trust member and a popular visitor at the Okemos relationship center.

Don’t be fooled by her name — Georgia loves her community in Michigan. She was married in 1971 and became a credit union member that same year. Georgia and her husband raised four sons in the Lansing area and established deep roots in the community. Her husband was a state employee, and she was a history teacher in the local school district.

When Georgia’s husband passed, she faced the challenge of becoming her own banker. Taking on the new responsibility felt daunting and uncertain. “He preferred the drive-through when we visited Lake Trust. But I like going in and talking to people.”

Georgia is delighted to remind anyone that she has been a member of Lake Trust since “before it became Lake Trust.” But this story isn’t about Georgia’s legacy with her financial institution. It’s about finding new pathways, new financial strategies, and new friends. In fact, Georgia now considers her Financial Life Planning representative to be her “fifth son.” In the wake of a very challenging, tragic moment, the team at Lake Trust was ready to simply listen and address her concerns. She loves that her conversations at the Okemos relationship center rarely stay on financial topics since everyone wants to hear her family updates.
